About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in our dynamic Homeless Health Service (HHS) leading our approach to the provision of quality care to people experiencing homelessness. The Peer Support Worker (PSW) provides peer led support to clients of the HHS utilising a strength based, trauma informed framework delivering care to people wherever they are, whether it be sleeping on the street, accessing day services or residing in crisis accommodation.

The PSW supports clients to navigate the various health service systems and collaborates within the HHS multidisciplinary team to assist with improving the health and wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.

The PSW will also contribute their lived experience expertise to service planning and development of policies and procedures within the HHS, enhancing their effectiveness and improving health outcomes for people and communities experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The position is part-time, working rotating shifts and weekends. Maximum Term until 30/06/2025 with the potential for extension.

About you:

We are seeking a skilled and energetic Peer Support Worker who has a lived experience of homelessness and possesses a passion for person centred care, justice and health equity. The PSW will draw upon their own personal lived experience of homelessness and recovery to provide authentic engagement and support for HHS clients assisting them to access health services of their choice.

The PSW will provide individual and systemic advocacy, and have the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to assist with improving health and wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing homelessness

Selection Criteria:
  1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
  2. Must have a lived experience of homelessness.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of homelessness on a person's health, and the issues a person experiencing homelessness may face when accessing health services.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide strengths based, culturally safe, trauma informed care, and the ability to support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness to access health services of their choice.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work within the interdisciplinary team and with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, and effective communication and interpersonal skills
  7. Demonstrated effective computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system.
  8. Current Drivers Licence.
