About the team

The City Economy Team provides a range of programs and services designed to support local businesses through capacity building, networking and a business concierge service. The team also works closely with the City Futures Department and trader associations to foster vibrant activity centres.

About the role

In this role, you will contribute to the planning and implementation of community and economic development projects across Glen Eira in line with the Economic Development Action Plan 2024-2026. The role will focus on projects within our activity centres, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to create new opportunities for businesses to thrive.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Explore ways to celebrate the history, local uniqueness and stories of each place and its local businesses.
  • Engage with businesses, Traders Associations, property owners and the broader community to remain up to date on matters relevant to Glen Eira.
  • Support Neighbourhood Activity Centres with developing and marketing their brand.
  • Measure and report progress on indicators in Council’s Economic Development Action Plan 2024-2026 and economic development related actions in the Council Plan and other strategic Council documents.

About you

You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent business knowledge and a strong interest in local economic development. Your role involves working with stakeholders to build lasting partnerships and deliver local projects. You will engage in research and evaluation of economic development issues and assist in strategic planning and project implementation

The following is also required:

  • Knowledge and experience of business management in the business/commercial sector.
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification and/or substantial experience in project management, economic development, commerce, business, planning, social planning or similar field.
  • Substantial relevant experience in developing, delivering and monitoring economic development projects and programs.
  • Experience in developing high level reports, business cases and marketing material.
  • High level of communication skills and experience in building relationships with stakeholders across multiple sectors

Interview information

In order to best manage the selection process, all shortlisted candidates will be contacted before 5 pm on Friday, 04 October 2024, to arrange an interview. The interviews will take place in person or by video conference.

The interviews will take place between Monday, 07 October 2024 and Friday, 11 October 2024, between 9am and 5pm.

Progressed candidates must undergo pre-employment screening as a standard procedure which will include:

  • Employee Working with Children Check
  • New National Police Record Check
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia.
