Occupation TasksPrepares, seasons and cooks food in a dining or catering establishment.
- Inspects and selects ingredients for cooking
- Measures, cleans, chops, blends, seasons, heats and cools food
- Monitors food cooking processes to ensure proper cooking and presentation
- Coordinates, supervises and collaborates with kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking
- Cleans and maintains kitchen equipment and utensils
- Monitors and maintains inventory of food supplies and equipment
- Assists in the development of new recipes and menu items
- Minimum 2 years’ experience
- Food Preparation Skills: High level of quality & ability to understand amount required
- Knife Skills: High level of knife skills & what knife to use & when
- Basic Cooking Skills: Knowledge of cooking methods & when to apply
- Recipe following: able to read, train & replicate all dishes
- Examining foodstuffs to ensure quality
- Regulating temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment
- Preparing and cooking food
- Seasoning food during cooking
- Portioning food, placing it on plates, and adding gravies, sauces and garnishes
- Storing food in temperature controlled facilities
- Preparing food to meet special dietary requirements
- May plan menus and estimate food requirements
- May train other kitchen staff and apprentices
- Complying with WHS systems & legislation
- Comply with Ember’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure role is carried out in line with safe work practices.
