The Opportunity:
The Head of WHS is a newly created role vital for developing Systra ANZ’s WHS risk and operational maturity.
This senior role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), who will entrust the Head of WHS to provide expert advice and be accountable for the whole WHS function. They will receive support from the WHS Advisor, who will help them to achieve their vision for Systra ANZ’s WHS Framework.
In addition to implementing internal WHS Risk and Assurance systems, the Head of WHS will be expected to work with project leads on project specific WHS management plans, as needed, to satisfy the requirements of clients and regulatory bodies.Onsite attendance is required.
Missions/Main Duties:
Key Responsibilities:
- Upgrade Systra ANZ’s WHS Framework to meet modern use cases, assessing business exposure to risks and implementing best practice control measures.
- Develop and maintain the WHS management system and supporting documentation including, WHS policies, performance objectives, hazard and risk registers, incident and claims reports, training plans.
- Deploy locally, and advancement of, the ‘3S Passport’ as the common Group psychological safety platform.
- Provide support in comprehensive project WHS planning, project specific mitigation plans, project health surveys, WHS awareness training programs, and regulatory reports.
- Work directly with project leads to address the WHS requirements in their work processes and activities (e.g., engineering, construction, subcontracts, procurement, project controls, document controls).
- Conduct safety inspections onsite to monitor compliance with WHS requirements including contractual commitments, laws and regulations, and the project’s WHS plan.
- Attend and participate in meetings with clients, auditors, engineers, project support and subcontractors to advise them of safety requirements.
- Lead, obtain and maintain ISO 45001 accreditation.
- Guide WHS Risk Register reviews and audit findings, offering strategic and data-informed recommendations to the ELT.
- Develop BU procedures that meet and work in conjunction with Group ‘Red Book’ procedures and Group SMI.
- Track and measure WHS performance objectives against wider operational KPIs.
- This role will be the primary liaison for Systra Global’s Health & Safety Directorate based in France, which necessitates out of hours online meetings from time to time.
Profile/Skills:
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- A senior manager with proven experience implementing WHS management systems, tracking WHS performance measures, mitigating WHS risk and leading audits.
- Working knowledge of national and/or state WHS legislation, codes of practice, and experience working with team leads to enforce a strong safety culture.
- Effective critical thinking abilities for data analysis and continuous improvement.
- An inquisitive and consultative approach to conducting accident investigations, risk reviews and project WHS plans.
- Lead Auditor qualifications in WHS management systems.
- Graduate Certificate in Internal Auditing desired.
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related health or environmental science area.
- Proficiency in delivering WHS training programs. Cert IV in Training and Assessment desired.
- 10 years of relevant experience.
- This role will require being present on site.
