Financial Accountant - Melbourne

A leading not-for-profit organisation is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join its dynamic finance team. This position plays a crucial role in managing the month-end process, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and contributing to process improvement.The Financial Accountant will report directly to the Financial Controller and will be responsible for delivering accurate financial information to support organisational decision-making and the successful management of funded programs. The Role
Key responsibilities of the Financial Accountant include:
- Managing the end-of-month close process, ensuring it is completed within five business days.
- Preparing and consolidating accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reports at cost centre, program, and entity levels.
- Preparing journals, including accruals, prepayments, lease accounting, disbursements, and revenue recognition entries.
- Assisting with the preparation of annual financial statements, external audits, and program acquittals.
- Maintaining cash flow projections through daily bank account updates.
- Preparing monthly BAS and annual FBT returns.
- Managing the Chart of Accounts, system setup, and ERP maintenance (TechnologyOne).
- Supporting the Accounts Payable Officer and Accountant on financial tasks, including invoice coding and cost capitalisation.
- Participating in rolling out new ERP functionalities and contributing to process improvements.
- Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- CA/CPA qualified required
- Bachelor of Commerce or a related accounting degree.
- 4-5+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of financial accounting standards and experience managing multiple programs and funding sources.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (TechnologyOne preferred).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at varying levels of financial literacy.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
