The Role & The Team:
The Tower Meteorological System (TWRMET) Sustainment project aims to replace existing Meteorological Display System with a new Meteorological Display System, which will process and display real time airfield weather information to Air Traffic Controllers at various localities – Archerfield (QLD), Bankstown and Camden (NSW), Jandakot and Port Headland (WA), Moorabbin (VIC), Parafield (SA).
As Senior Engineering Specialist, your immediate focus of the role is to act as Project Technical Lead and provide technical leadership and system engineering oversite for the delivery of TWRMET Sustainment project.
This includes:
- Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for technical matters regarding the Program’s engineering and technical matters.
- Orchestrate any required engineering and technical liaison between CTEO, the TWRMET Sustainment project, the TWRMET supplier(s) and other parts of Airservices and suppliers associated with the program.
- Manage the Program’s conduct of engineering review gates, including arranging third party participation as required.
- Act as the Airservices technical representative during Program related testing and Airservices Acceptance of test outcomes.
- Oversee the Program’s site installation, set-to-work, test, and verification activities.
- Perform system design, maintenance, and support tasks throughout the system life cycle in accordance with Airservices safety and system management policies, frameworks, guidelines, and procedures.
- Apply Systems Engineering and specialist expertise in the areas of planning, design, acquisition and implementation of new systems and upgrades to existing systems.
- Manage the technology change process, ensuring effective configuration management and change control is put in place.
- Identify, manage, and track risks associated to the program of work.
- Act as a trusted technology advisor. Provide technical leadership and guidance as required, including safety and security guidance; and
- Other activities as required.

The Person:You will be team focussed, have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and act with honestly, integrity and ethically with care and diligence.
In addition, the successful applicant will have:
- A degree in Engineering or Information Technology from an Australian tertiary institution or certified equivalent qualification if overseas (essential).
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in relevant area of engineering in accordance with applicable legislation e.g., Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ – essential).
- A sound understanding of and demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering practices throughout the SDLC and system management processes (essential).
- Extensive experience in the design, development, testing and implementation of robust and reliable software systems. This includes the over-arching aspects of quality assurance and configuration management (essential).
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder and vendor management (essential).
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and work as a senior member of a dynamic team, including ability to work under limited direction to achieve positive outcomes (essential).
- Strong documentation skills with experience in preparing and reviewing solution architecture documents and system design documents, including alignment to strategies and existing initiatives (essential).
- Experience in designing, maintaining, and supporting air traffic management systems, in particular (highly desirable):
- N-tier architectures and distributed systems.
- Real-time systems.
- Message handling; and
- Internet technologies.
- Satisfy the eligibility requirements for registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia (desirable).
- Understanding of Information Security Manual (ISM) and demonstrated experience in adhering to ISM principles and applying ISM controls (desirable).
- Understanding of DO-278A guidelines, software assurance levels and relevant processes and artefacts (desirable).
