The client

A major Federal Government department with one of the largest server environments in Australia. Their systems support critical national infrastructure, and they’re looking for a Backup & Recovery Engineer to take ownership of enterprise-grade backup services across a sprawling, high-availability environment.

What’s in it for you
  • Federal government contract with long-term potential
  • NV1 security-cleared environment
  • Work with market-leading tools: NetBackup, Veeam, Commvault
  • Mix of on-prem, virtual, and cloud data protection challenges
  • Help shape backup strategy, disaster recovery, and future-state planning

What you’ll do

This isn’t a support desk gig. You’ll be hands-on, leading the configuration, optimisation, and day-to-day operations of backup and recovery services. You’ll design and refine policies, test DR readiness, troubleshoot incidents, and work closely with infrastructure and storage teams to keep systems resilient and recoverable.

Expect to:

  • Own the configuration, scheduling, and performance of backup tools
  • Lead DR plan development and test recovery procedures
  • Optimise storage use with deduplication, compression, and other best practices
  • Act as the escalation point for complex incidents
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure licensing compliance
  • Provide clear documentation for audit and compliance needs
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure integrated data protection

Requirements

Who we’re looking for

You’re a hands-on engineer with real-world experience managing backup at scale. You’ve been in the trenches—automating tasks, solving restore failures, and planning for the worst. You thrive in secure environments and know what ‘enterprise-grade’ really means.

Must-have
  • Australian Citizen with active NV1 security clearance
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise backup environments
  • Strong skills with tools like Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, or Commvault
  • Proven track record with DR planning, testing, and execution
Nice to have
  • Backup and recovery across physical, virtual, and cloud (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with backup storage tech: tape, SAN, NAS, cloud
  • Scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Familiarity with SQL, Oracle, VMware, Hyper-V backup processes

Benefits

Benefits:

We recognize that diverse perspectives fuel innovation. Studies show that women and people of color are less likely to apply for positions unless they meet every qualification. At our company, we value diversity and inclusivity, and we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement.

You might be the ideal candidate for this or other opportunities.
