Motor Mechanic

The Role
As a Motor Mechanic, it is essential that you have a strong passion for performing mechanical servicing tasks efficiently and within the required timeframes. Your main responsibilities include testing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting significant issues, as well as overhauling engines and components such as transmissions, suspension, steering, and brakes across a variety of motor vehicle types.
The annual salary is $73,500 plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities:
- Identify issues, analyse the cause-and-effect relationships, and gather information from various sources to determine the most effective course of action.
- Complete vehicle details on requisition orders, including mileage, engine number, registration number, and other relevant information.
- Lift the vehicle using a hydraulic jack or hoist to gain access to mechanical components underneath.
- Repair or replace worn or faulty parts by removing assemblies like engines, transmissions, differentials, or steering systems; dismantle and inspect parts, consulting manuals as needed.
- Reassemble, test, clean, and adjust repaired or replaced parts and assemblies, using various instruments to ensure proper functionality before reinstalling them into the vehicle.
- Perform preventive maintenance checks, including fluid levels, brake systems, steering, ignition, and electrical wiring systems.
- Diagnose, repair, and replace engine management and fuel injection components.
- Use electronic diagnostic tools to identify and fix malfunctions in lighting, instrumentation, fuel injection, ignition, and emissions control systems.
- Supervise apprentices when necessary.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the service area, ensuring tools and equipment are always kept tidy.
- Return specialised tools and reference materials to their designated places.
- Ensure proper disposal of hazardous substances.
- Adhere to occupational health and safety standards and practices.
The Requirements:
- Must hold an AQF Certificate III in Automotive.
- Must possess at least 2 years of relevant experience in a commercial workshop setting.
- Should have experience working with mechanical systems.
- Must be mechanically minded.
- Should be proficient with hand and power tools.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test.
- Must provide verifiable work references.
