The Laboratory Technicians functionally report to the Curriculum
Leader: Science and are jointly responsible for the day to day
management of the Science support program. The LaboratoryKey Relationships
Technicians liaise and work closely together and with Science Teaching
staff. Ultimately responsible to the Principal via the Director of Business
Operations.
Position Objective: The Laboratory Technicians provide in class support and administrative assistance to the Science teaching staff
under the management of the Curriculum Leader for Science by preparing experiments, providing classroomassistance to teachers, stocking and maintaining laboratories and undertaking administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:- Classroom Support
- Prepare practicals and experiments as required by teaching staff and assistance with classroom
- Provide support for the Curriculum Leader: Science and the Science Teachers
- Laboratory operations
- Coordinate the maintenance of laboratory equipment, chemicals and stocks.
- Coordinate the purchasing and receipt of chemicals and other materials required in laboratories as
- Take responsibility for the safe storage of chemicals and materials and maintenance of associated
- Take responsibility for cleaning equipment and the maintenance of a clean and tidy working
- Assist the Curriculum Leader Science and teaching staff with the preparation of annual running and
- Take responsibility for the compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation requirements as they
- Undertake a range of preventative, planned and unplanned tasks to ensure the smooth and effective
- Administrative assistance
- Provide clerical and administrative assistance to facilitate the efficient operation of laboratories and
- Carry out other duties designated by the Curriculum Leader Science from time to time always acting
- Other duties as required.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar position
- A high level of WHS knowledge and risk assessments
- Competent computer literacy skills particularly in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook and Share Point
- Experience in information management systems, including internet and on-line environments.
- Good administrative skills
- Experience in managing a budget and purchasing orders
- Current Provide First Aid certificate
- Experience in an educational setting an advantage
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field desirable
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the maintenance of a supportive work environment.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills with managers, colleagues and students
- Excellent organisational and planning skills in managing a personal workload in a busy environment with
- Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining and improving resource management and provision systems.
- Proven ability to exercise good judgment in complex decision making.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to work in a ‘hands-on’ capacity
