Perth - Mechanical Engineer
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems and components used in steel fabrication processes. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering principles, an understanding of fabrication techniques, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product quality, process efficiency, and safety within the steel manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities: Design & Development
o Design mechanical systems, machinery, and components for steel fabrication processes.
o Create 3D CAD models using appropriate software (e.g., SolidWorks)o Ensure that designs meet all applicable industry standards and safety regulations.
o Develop detailed technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs (Bill of Materials) for manufacturing.
Process Optimizationo Analyse existing manufacturing processes and propose engineering solutions for continuous improvement.
o Implement process changes that enhance productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
o Assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues during fabrication to improve reliability and efficiency.
Project Managemento Manage engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring all deliverables are met on time and within budget.
o Coordinate with project managers, fabricators, and other stakeholders to ensure the mechanical design aligns with client needs and project timelines.
o Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations for mitigating potential engineering challenges.
Technical Supporto Provide technical support to the production floor and fabrication team for mechanical systems.
o Review and evaluate system performance to identify improvements or corrective actions.
o Offer on-site support for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
- Communication & Collaboration
o Collaborate with other engineers, fabricators, and project managers to ensure smooth project execution.
o Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.o Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders and ensure all relevant parties are informed about project updates.
Compliance & Safetyo Ensure all designs and processes comply with safety standards and environmental regulations.
o Participate in safety audits, quality control inspections, and process documentation.
o Develop and maintain safety procedures for mechanical equipment and systems in the fabrication environment.
Education and Experience:- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 12 months experience in similar role.
- Relevant certifications or training in drafting and design are advantageous.
- Experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on steel fabrication, manufacturing, or related industries.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of steel fabrication practices and methods and producing the CAD models and drawings to best communicate these. Knowledge of various disciplines and types of works including but not limited to pipe spools (ASME & Australian standards), structural steel, sheet metal, machining, mining equipment, safety equipment and guards, and earthmoving/agricultural machines.
- Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, machinery design, and fabrication processes.
- Ability to analyze mechanical systems and recommend improvements.
- Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and quality assurance processes.

Salary range is $94,000 to $97,000 per annum plus superannuation
