The Geelong Withdrawal Unit is a 12 bed community based residental withdrawal program that supports clients through the withdrawal of alcohol and other drugs. Our model of care guides our practice which is client centered, trauma-informed and harm reduction focused.

We need someone who understand that recovery can look different for individuals and we respond accordingly.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive AOD Support Worker who enjoys working with people, is committed to continue to learning and working in partnership with our nursing staff to provide support to clients during their stay. You will be required to support clients of the Geelong Withdrawal Unit through the process of withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs.

This is a casual position located at our Withdrawal service in Corio, VIC. Shifts include morning or afternoon with a sleepover component. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 4.
Your role will include
  • Welcoming service participants into GWU through the admission, orientation and induction process.
  • Observe, monitor and support participants through the GWU program.
  • Facilitate groups and outings as per GWU program
  • Undertake housekeeping duties
  • Monitor and report and client risk as per TSA policy and procedures
  • Listen to and involve clients in their recovery
  • Ensure appropriate preventative action is taken to address workplace hazards as per TSA procedure
What we’re looking for
  • Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Competencies CHCAOD 2C, 6B, 8C, 9C AND 10A or willing to obtain within 12 months
  • Desirable to have practical experience in AOD sector service delivery, with an understanding of addictive behaviour and drugs, both illicit and licit
  • Skills in managing challenging behaviours
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
