Business Overview

KT Kitchen is a busy Vietnamese restaurant located in Port Lincoln, specialising in pho, rice dishes, vermicelli bowls, roast pork, stir-fry dishes and takeaway meals. We operate 6 days a week and require a qualified and experienced Cook to support kitchen operations due to business growth.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties required for Visa 482)

The Cook will be responsible for the following duties in accordance with ANZSCO requirements:

Food Preparation & Cooking (Core Duties)

Prepare, season and cook Vietnamese dishes such as pho, noodle soups, rice dishes, vermicelli bowls, stir-fried dishes, bao buns, roast pork and daily specials.
Prepare mise-en-place including cutting meats, chopping vegetables, marinating proteins, frying, steaming, boiling and grilling.
Follow set recipes, portion controls and cooking procedures to ensure consistency across all menu items.
Manage multiple dishes simultaneously during busy service periods.

Menu & Recipe Execution

Ensure dishes meet KT Kitchen’s taste, quality, portion and presentation standards.
Assist in developing new menu items or seasonal specials if required.
Adjust recipes based on customer dietary needs (gluten-free, mild, no MSG, etc.).

Quality & Stock Control

Check the freshness and quality of ingredients prior to use.
Monitor food inventory, rotate stock (FIFO), reduce spoilage and minimise waste.
Assist with ordering supplies, inspecting deliveries and proper storage of ingredients.

Hygiene, Food Safety & Cleaning

Apply correct food handling, storage, temperature control and sanitation procedures per Australian Food Safety Standards.
Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, cooking surfaces and restaurant food-prep areas.
Ensure all food prep areas meet hygiene and health inspection requirements.

Workplace & Equipment Management

Set up and close down the kitchen, including preparation of workstations.
Operate kitchen equipment such as commercial fryers, combi ovens, grills, woks, steamers, slicers and mixers.
Report damaged or faulty equipment.

Teamwork & Communication

Coordinate with other cooks, kitchen hands and front-of-house staff during service.
Work independently when required and manage time effectively.
Train new kitchen staff in food preparation processes and safety procedures if required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS (482 Visa Standard)

To meet Visa 482 requirements, the candidate must have:

Essential:

At least 2 years of full-time relevant work experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
Ability to prepare and cook a variety of Asian/Vietnamese dishes.
Strong knowledge of commercial kitchen operations.
Ability to follow instructions, recipes and food safety procedures.
Ability to work under pressure during high-volume service hours.

Understanding of workplace safety, food hygiene and temperature control.

Preferable (not mandatory):

Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (highly regarded for skills assessment).
Experience in Vietnamese or Asian cuisine.
Experience in kitchen supervision or section leadership.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Full-time employment: 38 hours per week.

Roster may include weekends, public holidays and early morning or evening shifts.
Staff meals provided during shifts.
Stable long-term position with opportunity for visa sponsorship.
